For plumbers and heating engineers

Websites for plumbers and heating engineers

A leak at seven in the morning or a dead boiler in January: plumbing customers search on their phone and ring the first firm that looks trustworthy. We build you a site made for that moment, live in 24 hours, then look after it for £99 a month.

What customers look for

What plumbing customers look for

Most people find a plumber when something has gone wrong, on a phone, in a hurry. Your site has a few seconds to answer six questions.

Can you come now?

Leaks and no-heat calls are urgent. A call button on every page, and one clear line on when you take emergency calls, wins the job before they try the next number.

Can you work on gas?

By law, gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and careful customers check. Your registration number near the top of the page answers the question before it's asked.

What will it cost?

Nobody expects a fixed price for a leak they can't see, but people do want to know about call-out charges, and what routine work such as a boiler service costs.

Do you cover my area?

A plain list of the towns you cover saves wasted calls, for you and for them.

Do you know my boiler?

If a boiler manufacturer has accredited you, say so. Some offer longer guarantees when their accredited installers fit the boiler, and homeowners compare on that.

Do other people trust you?

Reviews from your own customers, shown with their permission. Real ones only: we never write reviews for you.

An example page outline

The pages a plumbing and heating website needs

Most sites we build for plumbers start with these pages. Leave out what you don't do, add what you're known for, and change the list any time by asking.

  1. HomeYour emergency line, the towns you cover, your Gas Safe number and your main services, before anyone has to scroll far.
  2. Boiler installationThe makes you fit, the guarantees that come with them, how quotes work and how long a swap takes.
  3. Boiler servicing and repairsAnnual services, breakdowns and what a visit includes.
  4. Landlord gas safety checksLandlords need a gas safety check every year from a Gas Safe registered engineer, with a record for their tenants, so this page brings in repeat work.
  5. BathroomsDesign, fitting and tiling, what's included and a typical timeline.
  6. Emergency plumbingLeaks, bursts, blockages and no hot water: what to do while they wait, and how fast you can get there.
  7. Heat pumpsOnly if you fit them. Say whether you're MCS certified, because the government's Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant needs an MCS certified installer.
  8. Areas we coverOne honest page listing where you work, not the same page copied for every town.
  9. ContactA short enquiry form, your number and your hours.

Sample site

A sample plumbing and heating site

This is the shape of the home page we'd build you. The business is made up; yours would carry your own name, number and areas.

  • Your number at the top, with a call button one tap away on a phone.
  • A headline that says what you do and where, in the words customers search.
  • Your Gas Safe number and the schemes you belong to, in the trust line.
  • Your main services up front, each linking to a page with more detail.
  • Opening hours and your emergency line, marked up so search engines can read them.

Douglas & Son Plumbing is a working sample site. The business, phone number and reviews on it are made up for the demo.

The details

The details that matter in plumbing and heating

Small things that tell a customer you're the real thing. We only ever show what you tell us is true.

Your Gas Safe number

Near the top of the home page and in the footer. Customers can check it for themselves on the Gas Safe Register.

Other schemes you belong to

OFTEC for oil, HETAS for solid fuel, MCS for heat pumps, WaterSafe for approved plumbers. We add the ones you give us and never invent one.

Emergency calls, stated clearly

An urgent banner with a big call button, and opening hours that say when you answer out of hours.

Prices, if you want them public

A simple price table for fixed-price work such as boiler services or landlord checks. Leave it off if you'd rather quote.

Where you work

A list of the towns and areas you cover, so the right people call and the wrong ones don't.

Built for search

Your site is marked up for search engines with what you do, your phone number, your hours and the areas you cover, in the structured format they read.

Change it by chat

Things plumbers ask their site to do

No editor and no waiting for a web designer. Type what you want, see a preview of exactly what will change, and tap approve. Nothing goes live until you say so, and any change can be undone.

Beyond the website

Getting more plumbing work from your website

A website doesn't ring on its own. These habits are what make it pay its way.

  • Link your website from your Google Business Profile, and keep your name, number and hours the same on both.
  • Give each job you want more of its own page: boiler installs, landlord checks, bathrooms.
  • Ask happy customers for a review, and show the real ones on your site.
  • Answer the things people ring to ask (call-out charges, areas, how fast you come) on the site itself.
  • Put your web address on the van, your quotes and your invoices.

FAQ

Plumbers ask us

Can my website show my Gas Safe number?

Yes. Give us your registration number and we'll show it where customers look: near the top of the home page and in the footer. We only show registrations and memberships you tell us about, and we never invent them.

Can customers book a boiler service online?

Every site has an enquiry form that comes straight to you, and a call button on every page. Upkept doesn't run a booking calendar itself, but if you already use an online booking tool, your Book button can link to it.

I mostly do emergency work. Will the site suit that?

Yes. Your site can carry an urgent call banner with a big call button, and your opening hours can say when you take emergency calls. On a phone, one tap rings you.

Do I need a separate page for each service?

For the work you most want, yes. A page about boiler installation answers different questions from a page about blocked drains, and each gives Google something specific to show. We build your main services as their own pages, and you can add more any time by asking.

I already have a website. Can you move it?

Yes. Bring your domain at no extra cost and we'll handle the move. If your old site has content worth keeping, we use it as the starting point.

How much does a website for a plumber cost?

Upkept is £99 a month with no setup fee, on a 12-month initial plan, then month to month. Our guide compares that fairly with DIY builders and one-off builds. Read the website cost guide.
